Celtic Bank’s AMC Entertainment Visa Card is made with the same excitement as a summer blockbuster. Points are explosive. Rewards are incredible! Even a special limited edition NFT is included! ?

AMC’s credit card, behind the marketing gimmicks, is actually a low-budget, campy horror film that caters to only a small audience. If you are a frequent moviegoer and have a used AMC Stubs card, it’s better to use a rewards credit with general purposes on your next date.

Five things that every movie lover should know about AMC’s credit card

1. Members can only apply

To apply for this card, you must already be part of AMC’s loyalty program Stubs. The program has three membership levels, each of which offers points on AMC purchases. These can then be combined with the rewards of the credit card.

  • AMC Stubs Insider : Join for free, and receive discounts or special offers.

  • AMC Stubs Premiere : 15 dollars plus taxes per annum, which includes free upgrades in popcorn size and beverages, as well as various discounts.

  • AMC Stubs A List : Includes up to 3 movies per week for $19.95 plus tax.

There’s no risk for casual movie-goers to join and get the AMC Entertainment Visa Card. For those who are only occasional moviegoers, the bad news is that paying members get more rewards. (More details below. )

2. Spending at AMC earns you points

The AMC Entertainment Card is Visa and can be used everywhere Visa cards are accepted, not just AMC. It awards the highest points when you spend within AMC, whether it’s in the theaters, the AMC app, or the AMC site.

  • Earn 50 points for every $1 you spend on AMC products.

  • Earn 20 points for every $1 you spend on groceries, dining and gasoline.

  • Earn 10 points for every $1 you spend on anything else.

By combining AMC Stubs points and credit cardholders points, A List and Premiere Stubs level members receive 150 points for every $1 they spend on AMC purchases. Insiders get 70 points.

3. The value of points is limited and the redemptions available are also restricted

This may seem like an impressive number of points at first. If you look beyond the Hollywood façade, those points don’t really mean much. Each point only worth one-tenth cent, but cardholders receive $5 for every 5,000 they earn. This is far less than the standard industry value of one penny per point.

You can only redeem rewards that you have earned in limited ways. You won’t be able to redeem points on tickets unless you have an A-List membership or Premiere AMC Stubs. AMC Stubs insiders can redeem rewards for concessions in AMC theatres. The rewards do not expire until 12 consecutive months have passed.

4. Bonus isn’t blockbuster

AMC Entertainment Visa new cardholders receive a welcome bonus. Spending $50 or more on your card in the first 3 months will earn you an additional $50 AMC Stubs bonus bucks.

Except for Premiere and A-List AMC Stubs members, these rewards are only valid on concessions. Bonus Bucks are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.

For the first six months, cardholders will also receive a large free popcorn every month that they make a minimum $250 purchase on their card. After earning the free popcorn, it will be automatically credited to your AMC Stubs account at the start of the following calendar month. The reward will expire at the end that calendar month.

Those who have been approved for the new card before July 31st 2023 will also receive a custom-made, limited edition NFT when spending $50 in their first three months.

5. No annual fees

The AMC Entertainment Visa does not have an annual fee, however, if you are only a Stubs Insider free member, then the rewards that can be earned with the card will be of limited value.

A more flexible entertainment credit card may be a better choice for those who don’t go to the movies as often. Capital One SavorOne Credit Card, for example, has no annual fee, and offers unlimited 3% cash back in dining, entertainment and movie theaters. This is real cash, which means you can use your rewards for more than just a trip to the movie theater.
