AmEx Platinum Cruise Benefits

AmEx Platinum benefits for cruises vary depending on the cruise line and details of your trip. AmEx cardholders may book online, or by calling AmEx Travel on 866-669-4232 to get these benefits.

American Express has partnered with 18 cruise lines. Every cruise line has different offers based on price, dates of travel and cabin selection.

Shipboard Credit

Cardholders who qualify for the American Express Cruise Privileges Program receive between $100 and $300 in onboard credit per room. The credits can be used for spa treatments, dining and other services. These credits cannot be redeemed for gratuities, casino fees or other expenses.

Shipboard credit is applied to the final invoice at the end your cruise.

The currency may fluctuate and they can be charged in the local currency. Your credits are non-refundable if you do not use the full amount.

Cruise line exclusive amenities

Reservations include exclusive benefits that are unique to every cruise line. Some examples include wine and canapes of premium quality, vouchers for spa treatments, and tours behind the scenes.

American Express Royal Caribbean passengers will receive one bottle of Champagne per room, while Regent Seven Seas guests can enjoy a private tour.

Receive American Express Cruise Benefits

Follow these steps to receive cruise benefits and make sure your booking meets all requirements.

AmEx Travel Book online or by phone.

Reservations must be made through AmEx Travel, either online or by phone. You cannot get these benefits if you make a booking directly through the cruise line, or through third parties like travel agents or online agencies.

The cruise must last at least 5 days with double occupancy

You must travel with at least two people in the same room on a cruise that is at least 5 days long.

Up to three rooms per cardmember are eligible for Onboard Credits and other Amenities. You can also share the benefits of your credit card with other travelers by booking all staterooms at once.

The cardholder must take the cruise

You can add rooms to your cruise for additional guests, but the person paying the bill must also be present. If you do not, the benefit will be denied to those who are on board.

The room types

Cruise Privileges benefits are not available in all rooms. Double-check your eligibility for your cruise before booking to avoid any disappointment.

The best way to get the most out of your AmEx Travel cruise bookings

Book your reservations through AmEx Travel to maximize your rewards.

Earning vs. redeeming points

American Express Platinum Travel Cruises offer 2x the points for cash bookings. Cardholders who are eligible can book American Express cruises with points. The cardholders may redeem their points to pay for all or part of a cruise.

This is a significant reduction in comparison to our usual valuation per point of 2 cents. We recommend that you save your points and pay cash instead of using them for this redemption.

Compare cruise line amenities and credits

There are many cruise companies that offer cruises. Prices can be similar between different cruise lines.

Compare the onboard credit and amenities to get the best deal, even if you have to pay a bit more up front.

No cancellation charges

AmEx Travel will not charge you any cancellation fees or changes if your reservation needs to be adjusted. Cruise lines may charge fees depending on the date you booked your cruise, where you are traveling to, and how long it is.

These fees will increase in general as your departure date approaches. Review the cancellation and change policies of your chosen cruise line before booking to determine what charges may be charged.
