Apple AirTags are essential tracking devices for travellers to monitor their checked baggage. Apple’s worldwide network allows you to locate your luggage by placing a small tracker inside your bag.

After your AirTag has been connected to your Apple Device, give it a name and choose an emoji that will indicate the purpose of your AirTag. Follow the steps on screen to link your AirTag with your Apple ID.

You can track luggage using Apple AirTags after they are configured. You should have one AirTag for each bag that you wish to track. Consider placing an AirTag inside your carry-on luggage as well.

You can set the option “Notify when left behind” for carry-on luggage to notify you in case you are separated from it, such as if you leave your bag onboard the aircraft or at the airport lounge.

Open the Find My App before you leave on your trip to ensure that all Apple AirTags are visible in the Items Tab. You may have to replace or re-insert the battery if the AirTag does not work.

You can check at any time if your AirTag device is in range. This distance, which is usually 30 feet, will be displayed.

You may be able see your luggage’s approximate location if you are outside of that range. This is because there are around one billion Apple devices equipped with Bluetooth. You can track your bag as it travels through the airport and onto your plane using this network.

You can ask your AirTag for a sound if you are within the range but not sure of its location, such as in a lost baggage office. Go to your Find My App and select your AirTag under the Items tab. Click “Play sound.” Alert the airline and airport staff before you proceed to prevent security issues.

You can set your AirTag to lost if you lose your bag. You can add an item’s lost message, along with a number or email address. Someone who finds your AirTag can use their Apple device and scan the tag to get your contact details.
