Referral programs are offered by many credit card companies. They allow current cardholders the opportunity to refer a card or recommend one to another. Both parties will benefit if the card is accepted by the person who was recommended. This usually comes in the form credit card rewards or cash.
Refer-A-Friend, Chase’s incentive program, covers cash-back credit cards, business, travel and airline cards, as well as hotel, airline, and hotel-related credit card. It’s easy to earn thousands of rewards points by referring friends to Chase cards. Referrals are limited by Chase, who limits the amount of cash or points you can earn.

How to refer a friend with Chase
Referring a friend is easy. You can do it from the Chase website or app.

Click on the button “Refer Friends Now” for the card you would like to recommend.

Enter your zip code and last four digits from your credit card when prompted.

Considerations when referring to
Just because you are able to, doesn’t necessarily mean that you should. It can be tempting, when each referral brings a large amount of points on your credit card, to give out links as candy at Halloween. But there are some things to consider.
Does the card fit your friend well?
Check if the card is suitable for the person. If your friend doesn’t travel often, for example, the Southwest card might not be the best choice. It may not be a good idea to suggest a new, flashy rewards card when your friends are also struggling with debt.
There is a limit
You can only earn a maximum referral bonus per Chase card. The more cards you have in your wallet the higher you could earn. Each calendar year, these limits are reset. As of June 20, 2023, here’s the offer.

Bonuses aren’t guaranteed
You won’t receive the bonus referral if the friend does not apply using your link. You won’t receive credit even if you spent the time explaining the rewards of the card to your friend. If they forget and apply on the Chase site instead, then you will not get any referral bonus. If your friend doesn’t get approved or you have reached the limit for referrals, then there is no referral bonus.
Taxes may be due
Most of the time, rewards earned from credit cards are not taxable. They’re treated as rebates for spending and not income. Referral bonuses, however, are not treated the same. Credit card companies may send you a 1099 to show the value in cash of rewards earned through referrals.
