If your Chase credit card is eligible and you are making New Year’s Resolutions, then the first three months in 2023 could be a good time for you.
Between January 1 and March 31, 2023 Chase Freedom Flex(sm), or the legacy Chase Freedom(r), credit card holders can earn 5% back up to $1500 combined in the following categories.

Cardholders must activate bonus categories online by March 14, 2023 to be eligible for 5% rewards on all eligible purchases during the quarter.
Getting the cash-back Target
Target.com, Target.com, and Target.app will now be featured in Chase’s quarterly bonus category. This is the first time Target has been included. Target was excluded from the 5% calendar in years past, when grocery stores were included.

Target could be your grocery store, or you could earn serious cash back from one of the most popular big-box retailers in the world if you are interested in a fancy fitness tracker, blender, or treadmill.
Tip
Groceries are also included in the 5% category for Q1 2023. However, you cannot “double-dip” at Target on grocery store purchases. These will only earn a maximum of 5% back and not 10 %.
Stackable grocery discounts
You can kick-start your health year by learning a new recipe-prepping method or spending the winter cooking at home. Groceries (except Walmart) are a welcome category. You don’t have a right to skip out on the bonus cash-back earnings, even if grocery delivery is your preference. Instacart grocery delivery is still available to cardmembers if they activate Chase Ultimate Rewards(r).
New Chase Freedom Flex(sm), cardholders can get 5% cashback at grocery stores (except Target and Walmart) for up to $12,000 in first-year spending.
This translates into a staggering 9% return on grocery purchases for the first three months in 2023. It’s not 10% back, because the bonus is 4% above the baseline 1% back. You will earn 5% per year and an additional 4% for each quarter. )

Goals for financial fitness
Do you have a New Year’s resolution to improve your health and fitness? Chase Freedom(r), Chase Freedom Flex(sm), and Chase Freedom(sm) offer up to 5% cashback on your gym membership.
You can choose to work out at the gym, or get your Zen in the yoga studio. All merchants that are listed as a fitness club or gym on your credit card statement will be accepted. You may prefer to work out at home, but this does not apply to fitness streaming services such as Apple Fitness and Peloton.
