Delta Air Lines offers one of the most enjoyable in-cabin experiences available to any U.S. carrier. But, it’s just getting better.

All Delta SkyMiles members, even those who aren’t elite, will be able to access free Wi-Fi on all of its flights starting February 1, 2023. If they don’t have an account, passengers will be able sign up onboard for Delta SkyMiles.

Free Wi-Fi will now be available on approximately 500 domestic Delta mainline planes starting February. Delta claims that more than 700 aircraft will have Wi-Fi by the end the year. This number will increase as the airline expands its service to regional and international jets by 2024.

This move expands the partnership between Delta Mobile and T-Mobile. T-Mobile customers already had free Wi-Fi access. Anyone can now have Wi-Fi access regardless of affiliation with T-Mobile, provided they sign up for Delta SkyMiles.

It is easy to join the Delta SkyMiles loyalty programme. Members can also earn Delta SkyMiles that they can redeem for award flights.

Those who do not wish to join can still buy Wi-Fi at a flat rate $10 per device and flight.

Compare Delta’s WiFi offerings to other airlines

This news brings Delta to a select few airlines that provide free Wi-Fi for all passengers. JetBlue, the other major U.S. airline, is the only one that offers free Wi-Fi to all passengers. Delta offers free messaging via iMessage or WhatsApp. Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines both offer this service.

In-flight entertainment is one of the main criteria airlines use to judge them. JetBlue was awarded first place for the best in-flight entertainment for its free Wi Fi, seatback USB power outlets and brand-name snacks. This news could help Delta climb the rankings next year.

Delta was already second this year thanks to its inflight treats like seatback screens that show a variety of movies and offer complimentary Starbucks coffee and Biscoff cookies. Delta’s inability to provide Wi-Fi was the main reason it didn’t win gold.

If the Wi-Fi rollout is successful, Delta could be a contender to win gold in 2024.
