What is TSA preCheck?

TSA preCheck, a program for trusted travelers run by Transportation Security Administration in the United States (TSA), helps more than 32 million travellers save time.

You don’t need to remove your belts, shoes or jackets when using TSA PreCheck. And you can keep your laptops and liquids inside your carry-on bag after it has been scanned by an X-ray.

PreCheck lines are usually shorter because of their quicker screening processes. You’ll usually get through the line in under five minutes.

Over 85 airlines, both domestic and foreign, participate in this program. You’ll get a Known Traveler Number once you register. Save time by including it in your traveler’s information.

What is the TSA PreCheck waiting period?

It’s not a long process, but you must make an appointment in person. You must be an American citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent residence to get TSA PreCheck.

The cost of enrollment is $78 for a five-year membership. After that, you will need to pay an additional $78 in order to renew the membership by hand or $70 online.

Visit the TSA PreCheck site and fill out the form online to begin the process. You shouldn’t need more than five minutes to answer the questions about your personal information.

Your enrollment period will be determined by the list of centers, dates and times available for a personal appointment. You can start your application process and get through airport security faster if you make an appointment as soon as possible.

After receiving your pre-enrollment email you will need to schedule an appointment in order to complete TSA PreCheck registration.

You shouldn’t have to wait more than 10 mins for your appointment, although you may need to wait longer if the place is crowded.

An agent will ask you questions about your application and take your fingerprints during the appointment. For example, if you have used another name in the past. Be prepared to give details about your criminal history if you are asked.

Wait three to five business days after you have completed the enrollment process and been deemed eligible. Keep in mind, however, that approval can sometimes take as long as 60 days.

Click the link “Check My Status” to locate your KTN after approval. You can add your KTN to the next booking you make or store it in your frequent flyer profile so that it will automatically appear when you are reserving a flight.
