Hawaii is always a top choice for relaxing beach vacations. A trip to paradise is not possible without asking the crucial question: What’s the cost of a vacation in Hawaii?

It all depends on where you are staying and when you travel. What does this mean? We have crunched the numbers so you know how much you can afford and are better prepared to go on your next Hawaiian vacation. Let’s take another look.

Hawaii trip cost

We did some calculations and came up with estimates of the cost of a 10-night trip for four adults (2 children and 2 adults) in peak summer travel season, and a seven night trip for the same family in shoulder season.

These are the hypotheses that support these dollar figures:

  • You can travel to Honolulu from Oahu, Hawaii’s most visited island.

  • Round-trip flight for four departing from Los Angeles.

  • Peak trips are usually taken on June 25, 2023. A shoulder-season trip is a May 8 departure.

  • To estimate the price of a property, we used three types. These are:

    • Hilton Hawaiian Village is a four-star beachfront resort.

    • Holiday Inn Express Waikiki is a three-star hotel

    • A condo: There are many Waikiki units available on Vrbo.com.

  • The resort fees are included in the totals. These are:

    • $50 per person for a night at the four-star resort.

    • $25 per Night at the three-star Hotel.

    • All cleaning and management fees for condo units.

  • Totals include: Parking costs

    • $65 per Day at the four-star resort.

    • $45 per night at the three-star hotel.

    • The cost of parking is not included in the condo totals. This varies from one building to another.

  • Nightly meals include dinners for around $225 with drinks, taxes, and tips.

    • Four-star resorts offer breakfasts and lunches for around $100 per day.

    • A three-star hotel costs about $50 per day, and includes a complimentary breakfast.

    • To cut down on meal costs, tight budgets require that you eat cheap and prepare meals.

  • The 10-night trip includes a snorkeling excursion and surfing lessons. There will also be a Pearl Harbor visit, as well as a day at a waterpark. The seven-night trip includes snorkeling, a Pearl Harbor visit, and a day at the water park.

  • Economy rental car reserved through DiscountHawaiiCarRental.com or Turo.com.

  • Housekeepers: $5-a-day tip

Based on the information above, we have estimated our budgets.

10 Night Trip, Peak Summer Travel Season

  • $12.296: Four-star resort on the beachfront with a 10-day car rental.

  • $9.286: A three-star hotel with a 10-minute walk from the beach and a five-day car rental.

  • $6,261 Low-cost condo located walking distance from the beach.

Seven-night getaway, shoulder season

  • $7602: Four-star resort on the beachfront with seven-day rental car.

  • $5.792: A three-star hotel with a 10-minute walk from the beach and a two-day rental car.

  • $3,892 – Low-cost condo located walking distance from the beach.

These numbers are unbeatable. Definitely. These are some tips to help you save money on your Hawaii vacation.

How to Cut Your Hawaii Vacation Costs

Rent a car or stay on the beach every day. But don’t do them both

Do you think a great vacation would involve driving the entire island to see every corner? Don’t spend a lot of money on a hotel at the beach in Hawaii. If your dream vacation involves spending a lot of time on the beach and swimming in the pool, then you shouldn’t be paying $75 per day for a rental car.

Waikiki is home of approximately 85 hotels, all within walking distance from a car rental agency.

It’s simple to rent a car during a portion of your trip. Choose Waikiki as the pick-up/drop-off location for your car rental. You can save up to a night of parking by picking the car up early in the morning and dropping it off at the end, reducing your trip costs.

This strategy has a downside: you might have to wait in long lines to get your vehicle. You can send one adult to pick the car up in the morning, while the rest of your crew get ready for the day. Don’t forget airport transfers to add to your budget. For a taxi rideshare or taxi between Waikiki airport and Honolulu, budget $50 per person, plus tip.

Eat cheaper

A family of four can enjoy a delicious dinner at Duke’s Waikiki. This includes cocktails for the adults, appetizers, and a Hula Pie dessert. The total cost is approximately $225 including tip and taxes. The beachfront views, aloha spirit, and tiki torch are well worth the expense. You don’t need to spend that much each night.

You can eat at the beach, and it is much more affordable. Cheeseburger Waikiki’s burgers are $18, while the Duke’s fish is $36. You can also cut down on your food costs by eating at pizza joints, ramen houses and authentic Hawaiian restaurants like Rainbow Drive-In.

You can also stop by one of the ABC Stores to grab a variety of packaged salads, sandwiches and yogurt. You can also buy bread, cereal, milk, sandwich meats, and milk at your condo or hotel to make breakfast and lunch.

Consider a condo

A vacation rental is a great option for those who don’t want to spend the same amount as a hotel.

We found a VRBO condo for 10 nights at $1,618 plus taxes, for a total $1,887 This is during peak summer travel.

A seven-day rental in shoulder season can reduce your accommodation costs by about $1,000.

Condos often have a kitchen, so you can save tons by making your own breakfasts and dinners. You can also make sandwiches while on the go.

Use points and miles to pay

If you use airline miles, hotel points, or credit card points to pay for your Hawaii trip, the answer is much more appealing. This can help erase hundreds of thousands or even thousands of dollars off your trip cost. These articles will provide more information on maximising your points.

To go to Hawaii,

How much does it cost for a trip to Hawaii? It can be quite expensive. Hidden costs such as resort fees or exorbitant parking rates can quickly break your budget. There are many ways to cut down on the expense of your Hawaii vacation. You can save a lot by traveling before or after peak summer season. If you don’t want to take advantage of the location, it’s worth not paying a premium for a beachfront hotel. You won’t need to pay more than $65 per night to park your car if you plan to swim in the pool for several days.

A condo that allows you to cook your own meals can help you save big on dining out. These simple strategies will help you find the right answer to the question, “How much does a vacation to Hawaii cost?”
